Alarm Viper 500vx
Have bee looking around for an alarm and have come across an Viper 500vx for 550 pounds including turbo timer, full closure and engine start, as well as mobile installation at home or business. Can anybody offer me some advise regarding this alarm such as benefits, disadvantages and if any one has had the alarm and received any problems.
I am not sure but some one has hold me that the Viper company is a branch off the clifford company.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Viper 480xv which I believe is the same alarm but with a single colour fob.Had it installed at home by Motorguard.Only went for the basic system (£375 inc.fitting).The unit works okay but have had a few issues with the ultrasonics not arming but if I disarm then re-arm it's fine.Overall I would say it's a good system that can be upgraded. My only gripe with it is that when you do add features you need to enable them in the brain, this means a trip to the installer at a charge or you could buy a Directed Bitwriter for around £90 and do it yourself.

agree, good alarms,i too have the 480xv and bought my own bitwriter from the states for £60 delivered (£ to $ was good back then)
i wanted to upgrade the fob from the 480xv one to the 500 version as its charged up via the mains not using batteries (the main pager/fob goes thru them every 4-5 weeks or so)

Nice reply mick, do you think you made the right investment in buying the Viper instead of e.g buying a clifford or toad???
There are some good features that I like on this Viper for example the pager fob that informs you if the alarm is going off up to 1/4 mile away as well as the engine start ( especially with winter soon coming).

I actually wanted a Clifford Avant Guard 5.5 but at the time I couldn't afford it (£600+).As far as comparing them I don't have a clue as I never got to see the Clifford working but I am happy with the Viper,as the last alarm I ever had on a car was a Moss Ms715 and it was pants, always going off when you as much as breathed on the car.

Also I think that Clifford and Viper were/are made by the same company (Directed Electronics),so I would have thought that the alarm's brain's would be very similar,if not the same as they can both have the same features.
It probably comes down to a choice of branding and ££££££.
