I recall sometime around the late 70's that the points system changed

Am I going mad?

 

It used to be 2 points for a win, but the authorities reckoned that there were too many draws and not enough incentive to go for the win, so changed it to 3. I think that we started this and that other countries followed suit. Can't remember exactly when, but I would say mid 1980's.

 

Woohoo I'm not going mad!

So 2 for a win, 1 for a draw and, of course, nothing for a loss.
