Default xxx.exe Error Messages

I am getting a bunch of wierd error messages in Windows stating that a programme has ended unexpectedly that have three numbers as their names.

It happens about every ten minutes as if something is spawning these things!!!

478.exe for example.

Has anyone else experienced this, what is it and what do I need to do to stop it.

It started today and appeared out of the blue. It is a 'work' laptop although I have only dealth with genuine work emails on it and all attachments seem kosher.

Hello Trout
That doesn't sound right. Search for the exe first and see where they are stored. If it is in Windows or WINNT, then I'm kind of sure that they are probably not legit.

Look in task manager and see what else is running.

You may have to run a spyware scanner to get rid of them.

Spyware can get downloaded just by surfing the web and not just when downloading files or emails..

478.EXE - Trojan.Agent/Gen | SUPERAntiSpyware

looks like spyware to me

although I would do a bit more research -- from the www above it looks like it is a pretty new virus

I have used a number of tools and they have all found nothing.

It looks like there is a program creating the nnn.exes as I must have had about thirty occur now all with different numbers. The programs seem to fail which kicks up the 'program ended unexpectedly' error from Windows.

Wierd one. Whatever is spawning them does not seem to be found by Pareto, CCLeaner, Norton or McAfee. Hmmmm?!

Try Malwarebytes. That has found things for me that Spybot S&D misses.

Both free.

Thanks I used Malwarebytes that identified dodgy Registry Key.

Once that was deleted Symantec then found the Trojan.

All clean now!
