i just brought i phone 3g and tried to activated it as per instructions.when i connect up my pc only recognise the iphone as a camera and doesn't start itune up to activate.

Is iTunes up to date?

 

I assume you do have iTunes installed and, as Jack suggests, make sure it's up to date. There was a 3.0.1 update released about two weeks ago and you want to install that on the phone right away. If you do have the latest iTunes then have you tried launching it and then plugging in the iPhone to see if it picks up the Phone?

 

updated and uninstalled and reinstalled few time.pc or itune just wont recognise my iphone.

i removed itunes, mobileme and apple mobile device support then reinstalled
