Recomend an external dvd drive for a netbook...

I'm looking for an external dvd drive for a netbook. I had looked to see if I could get an xbox hd dvd drive cheap as these work but no cheap new ones about.

I have an hp external bay with dvd drive but it has one of those double cables on it for usb and seperate power so only works with the hp notebooks with the 'special' usb port with the hole at the side for the power pin.

Anyone recomend a cheap external dvd drive?

Too expensive Steve, when I say cheap i'm talking really cheap, i.e. sub £30 if possible! The netbook only cost £129 in a sale so wont spend a lot on an external cd drive. Been doing everything via bootable usb stick so far but would like a dvd drive if cheap enough.

get those usb dongle that can connect to the IDE and SATA connection. you can use it with a desktop DVD Burner / HDD / etc.

interesting, I bought my daughter a Toshiba netbook the other day -- and was looking for an external usb dvd drive

I think there was one on Dabs or Maplins for about 40/50 quid

but my initial thoughts were to buy just the external USB case (with an internal SATA/IDE connection), that way I could reuse an old DVD drive -- but I have'nt got around to it yet

Never used that company before. Does not write DVD's....

There are places that sell the casing to hold normal slimline dvd drives that laptops come with. Case was around £10 when I saw it last, throw in an old dvd rom drive and your away

I`m using the LG which is the 2nd one on the link below, ive had mine now for over a year and its been fantastic with not one bad burn or error *touch wood obviously* lol.... They are quite sleek looking as well, LG have a good repuation for external dvd burners at a good price. At £37 you can`t go wrong, ive not used that company before so you would have to do your opwn research on them.

the one on scan only do IDE. you can get some with IDE and SATA. for example...

IDE will do as have a couple of old pcs with ide dvd writers in them kicking about. Would like a slimline drive ideally, need to find out if i can get just a case for a laptop slimline drive to fit in.
