Default Gearbox and diff oil change.

Hi folks. I'm after a bit of advice. I have a 2004 WRX and am gradually going around the car getting all of the servicing jobs done. I'm now on to the drivetrain and am thinking of tackling the gearbox oil and the diff oil.

Is this a DIY job or should I leave it to the garage ? How hard is it to do ? I have a set of ramps and can get under the car. Is there anything I need to look out for ? Also does anyone know if a 2004 WRX has a rear diff temp sensor ?

Any suggestions or comments welcome. Cheers boys !!!!

Its very possible to do on your own but ideally you should have the car level so draining works properly. I'd also say first time drain will have you complaining about some of the drain plugs are the rear diff might be a pig. Worth doing though for peace of mind and dont forget to clean off the little metal particles from magnet.

Easy DIY job.

For the gearbox get a funnel with a 2 foot length of hose to make refilling thru the dipstick tube easy/less messy. Sump plug torque loading 32.5 lbft.

For the rear diff make sure you remove the fill plug BEFORE removing the drain plug. If you can't get it out how are you going to refill it? Plugs are 49 lbft

Choice of oil is yours according to your manual, but generally 4 litres 75w90 GL5 front, 1 litre 80w90 GL5 rear.
