Default Gearbox length and FWD

Hi all,
Two questions that I would like to rattle all those knowledgable grey cells out there with.....

1) Easy one - someone with a 5 speed manual gearbox laying in the garage will probably help easiest! What length is the gearbox please?

2) Have searched forever and come up with nothing definative! How do you convert the Gearbox to FWD only? I have seen it done but am unsure on the way of doing it. Any definative info would be good please.

For info - this will be on a 5 speed box from a WRX but am sure it wont make much difference.

If all goes to plan youll have a new build project coming soon

Thanks

1.6 and 1.8 early cars (upto 95) saloons, some were 4x4 and some were FWD.

To convert a 4x4 box to FWD, remove the centre diff and weld it up and refit! Bit its heavier and longer than a proper FWD car.

already done it mate

i have a 2.0 na, used the 1.6 fwd gearbox using the 1.6 fly, the 1.6 clutch, and the 1.6 shafts which fit directly in the 2.0 hubs...removed all the other stuff, prop, rear shafts and diff....released the outer c.v's from the shafts, cleaned up and fitted in rear hubs to hold bearings together.

been in over 6 months now...

i get over 300 miles to each tank
