Guys,

I have morrettes fitted and a HID kit, all have been working fine for around 6 months, but as of a week ago I have a problem with my main beam.

When I switch the main beam on the headlights go out completely, side light stays on.

Also when I flash the main beam the same happens.

I have changed a ballast as one of the HIDs was flickering but still have the same issue.

Any ideas guys

Main beam is not HID by the way

 

Check: main beam fuses, Main beam bulbs, main beam connectors.

 

i have also had several relays fail on mine.. however if neither main beam works then check the fuse and the main power feed wires to the relays. if it was a relay then i think one side will still work. it's a pain to trak problems with these even with a meter... also check the wires ti the relays I have also had a wire break.. basically it's a process of elimination...

 

All fixed, it turned out to be a broken wire which was powering the relays and a cable had become disconected which went from one relay one side to the other.

 

If you've fitted an aftermarket HID kit mate typically you should start with its wiring harness.
Next check the relays. My headlights failed, and it was because the relay on the harness had detached itself from the mounting point and ended up getting a light coating of water (which was enough to stop it working).
I now carry a spare relay around with me from Maplin just in case but have encased the relay in insulation tape to keep it fairly waterproof.

It's been like that now for nearly a year without any further incident.
