Difference between P1 and STI engine?
Hi,
I was wondering if there was actually any difference between the engine in a p1 and the equiv year STI engine?
Anything special edition which would be tarnished by dropping an STI lump in intead?

Engine wise they are both exactly the same, assuming your talking about a version 5 / 6 STI.

Isnt there a 2.2 in the p1/22b? Are the bhp/torque figures the same?

As above - 2.2 engine is 22B only, the P1 engine is the same as STI 5 / 6. It's the P1's exhaust system and ECU which are the unique bits.

Apart from those stupid Broquets that
MAY be the reason why so many engines in the P1s have failed.

Question is then, is they are both the same, do the JDM STI engines suffer from the same problems the P1 engines occasionally suffer from?

no because the STI is mapped on the grade of fuel available in its own domestic market.
The P1 has had stuff added to the tank to try to increase the fuel to that available in its own domestic market.
Search broquets, the guy punting them out was mouthing off left, right and centre but has gone decidely quiet since...

so the type R has a different engine to the STI then?
I thought the STI cams were good up to about 400/500 bhp? why would the type R have different?

The version 5 / 6 Type R doesn't have a different engine
