Question

Hi,

I've just had some Eibachs fitted @ my car's 30K service. Got charged £111+VAT for fitting (I supplied the springs).

Does that sound about right? Thought it might be less given that I'd already be paying for most of the labour with the service.

Ozzy,

Kenny Brown Engineering were going to charge me £100 for fitting some H&R springs to my car.

So it sounds about right!

Springs are not a service item, so you cant really expect reduction, I dont think they would have even taken the wheels off for the 30k.

Sounds a fair price to me, but you may get extra benefit if you get 4 wheel alignment done.

Cheers

Greersport fitted Eibachs to my Evo. IIRC it was around £220 supplied and fitted.

Well considering they need to check the brake pads and discs, I hope they do take the wheels off.

I know it's not a service item, but if it takes them 1-2 hrs less, since the cars being looked at anyway, then I don't see why I should pay additional labour.

Anyway, sounds about right so I don't think it's worth mentioning.

Thanks,
Stefan

Forgot to mention that they did check the alignment as well. Will need to ask if it was all 4 corners that were done.

The car feels a whole lot better now, so musn't grumble.

When the car is up on the ramps, it takes about 2 minutes to remove all the wheels with an air gun. However, it still takes in the region of 2 1/2 to 3 hours to remove the spring/strut units, dismantle the strut top mounts (need a spring compressor), put the whole units back again, bolt the whole lot up and then check the alignment.

For 4 door cars, the rear seats need to be removed to give access to the top mount bolts. Also, the brakes need to be bled as well, as the hoses go through holes on the struts to keep them in place. If it was a 30K service, then they would have been changing the brake fluid anyway, so you may have saved a bit there.
