Smile My New 1997 WRX Wagon Import

Hello all,

This is my first post on Scooby net as i've just bought a 1997 WRX Imported Wagon. It's not only my first Impreza but also my first ever turbo'd car... and I'm absolutly loving it!...

I have heard that the Japanese versions are more powerful than the UK models but I wondered if anyone knew what the exact BHP (when new) for one of these is?

Nick

Imported from Japan? Looks like a UK spec car to me, so EURO import? which will be 208bhp if it's standard.

It's definately a jap import... i've got the JUMVEA milage certificate.
It's also got loads of odd little japanese touches, none of which I like really... like a bizarre after-market chrome handle bar on the boot and a massive panasonic CD & minidisc player.. But the milage (55,000) was what sold it to me...

I should have posetd some more (better) images, these shots are a bit generic I guess..

So what's the BHP on a Japanese import?

Ah ok. In that case it's either 240 or 260bhp? Might be wrong on both counts though

Thanks for the reply Bioforge... I just found this (should have looked on wikipedia first!):-

Japanese Spec
GC8D (9/1996-9/1997)
In September 1996, the WRX was updated with new styling. The 1997MY WRX now has a power rating of 280 PS (206 kW) at 6500 rpm with 33.5 kg·m (329 N·m) at 4000 rpm (280 PS at 6500 rpm with 352N*m 4000 rpm for the wagon version). The car now weighs 1250 kg (2756 lb).

Subaru Impreza WRX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Assuming 'PS' is the same as BHP, that would make it 280?

Not that it matters i guess... just sounds loads better!

Gold rear WRX stickers and standard clear rear lights usually mean 276bhp on the saloon

No, don't feel bad!

I was only kidding... I really don't know what the hell it is! but it seems to be bolted on so removing it will leave 2 great, nasty holes.... (though perhaps preferable to the bar!?)

...I do think it's kind of funny though, so may just leave it...
