Seems like a daft question, but I'm pretty sure MY99 UK Turbo should have a low level fuel warning light?? If so, how low does the fuel level really have to be before it comes on?

my 99 turbo is about the thickness of the needle off the bottom white line when the light comes on mate .

Cheers Jamie, not let it go that low, other cars seem to bring light on a lot earlier. Hope mine does actually work!

i only no cus she comes off the road for winter and i keep moving her up and down the drive so the old gal does get low

I dont have 1 in my poverty spec 93 wrx :'(

 

8 years of ownership (MY00) and have never seen it come on.

 

I only did it the once, took about 52ltrs to the top to fill her up, but when it came on i needed to find a shell garage

I try not to let it come on. As even if it was 10 litres it wont last for long!

 

Thats when it comes on. You will still have a good few miles left though s last time mine came on i satnaved the nearest tesco 10 miles away and still made it. Naughty i know lol.

fuel light?! Excellent, here's me thinkin my MY99 didn't have one! It's been canny low just a few times, but i expected it to be so low that it was due to stop altogether, I guess I needn't panic so much next time

My my99 version 5 comes on when its just about on empty. Did 25 miles once with the light on. Needle went atleast 10mm below the empty line. Was sweating a bit.

Exactly what I was thinking, what happens if it doesnt' work! Try never to get it that low, but I too was sweating a bit looking for a fuel stop!

 

Forget the fuel light ... treat at least! 1/4 full - i.e. c.12 litres - as 'empty'!

The fuel tanks can surge under hard cornering i.e. going right (typical! - as that includes roundabout hooning ).

The last thing you want is fresh air getting into the fuel rails for mere seconds!

I managed to get the fuel light come on for the first time not so long ago. With a full tank and 20ltr jerry can in the back, it took nearly 8 days and over 300 miles just to get the fuel light up, another 30 miles before i needed to use the jerry can

 

Don't get me wrong, I've always been in the habit of treating 1/4 tank as empty, but with the closest shell garage 3 miles away, then the next one about 10, I've been caught out on ocassion (no bloody V power the other day!).

 

i normally fill up around the 1/4 mark aswell, but im also blessed with the fact that we have plenty of tesco99/ shell v power close by.

 

Totally. To utter it as a kind of silent mantra to oneself is one thing. But to successfully practice it, is quite another!
