Question Best tyre SIZE on 17s??

Hello All!

I've bought myself some new(ish) 17" alloys and I'm wondering what the best tyre size is to fit on them. I'm basically trying to decide between 215 and 205 for width and between 40 and 45 for profile.
I guess that gives me a choice of 205/40/17, 205/45/17, 215/40/17 or 215/45/17.

Any advice is greatly appreciated......

On a classic, the accepted size is 215/40 17".
This gives no rub, good grip and minimum sidewall-flex without being TOO hard, and has the added advantage of making the speedo remain accurate.....well as accurate as any speedo is. The wheels are the same rolling radius, is what I mean

205/45/17 give a slightly better ride due to the higher sidewall, they also used that profile on the p1 with 17s.Downside is the choice of tyres is very limited,if you can find them, bf goodrich g force profilers are great all round tyres with a stiff sidewall...

Having just gone from 205/40/17 to 215/40/17 I would highly recomend this size the difference in ride and handling is marked.

205/45/17 and 215/40/17 are the accepted size for a classic but you can get away with newage size's of 215/45/17.

I'd go for 215/40/17 for ease and choice of tyre.
For tyres I can recommend Goodyear F1's both GSD3's and Asymmetrics
