Handbrake turns.....??

ummmm... I hope this isn't buried somewhere within the "Driven is bollocks" thread... but...

I'm sure I remember a thread some time ago saying that if you pull handbrake turns in a scoob, you can shaft your transmission / rear diff or something like that...????

Not only did penny mallory do this in the STi 7, she actually mentioned doing it in her commentary!!

Ummmm..... does anyone know if it IS OK to do this??

Don't know for sure - but someone said it autoamtically disengages diff to rear when handbrake applied now - thats for both evo and sti7?

It was me that put the "handbrake turn" point in the Driven thread.

I am not an expert, but as all four wheels are driven, if you try to stop the rears from spinning, this is going to affect the fronts in some way. If the fronts are not in a position to change speed, then the bit in the middle (the differential) is going to get a hammering!

I believe that the rally prepared cars do have a mechanism to permit handbrake turns, but i didn't think that it was fitted to normal road-going cars.

You are right the rally cars do have something, it is all controlled as they are active diffs.
