always sets of alarm bells in my head. It'll be faster, louder and more fun....of that there can be no doubt. But the running costs, both day to day and long term, and the potential for disaster are 100 fold higher with the TVR over the Focus which, I assume, is still under manufacturer warranty. My heart would say yes...my head would probably say no. For the money you seek for the Focus you could get a Stage 2 VX220 turbo. 250bhp and 930kg so it'll hit 100mph from rest in 10-11 seconds and handle better than the TVR or Ford to boot. Will provide a lot of the thrills and spill of the TVR but with better overall reliability and less risk of massive bills. Also easier to sell on in the future.

 

If it all checks out ok (hpi etc) remember, it will cost more to run, insure, repair. It will loose money fast and it looks like a mid life crisis.....
I have it without a second thought

 

And it will smell of urine inside.

There must be a reason why you bought the focus and not a 2 seater sports car in the first place. Has this logic really disappeared?

If you can afford to double or probably triple your running costs and don't need the usability of the focus then go for it but expect it's value to drop like a stone

 

WHY would you buy a new ford ST and want to sell it 5 months later ?????

unless you need the money or are mad :-(

if you need the money the tvr wont help

 

I got offered the same car as a deal against my Impreza... the description and fact a friend has one of these put me off.

Dont get me wrong, I love the way a TVR sounds and goes.. and I'm sure loads of other people do too.. but the hassle that my friend has had with his, at half that mileage with a stack of history, puts me right off them.

Its one of those cars I'd love to own for a week or two when we get our summer.. but couldn't face the financial gamble of owning it for any real length of time because it WILL go wrong.

Thanks for all the info and advice......I agree my heart says WOW yes please.....but my head is saying, this is going to cost big money to keep on the road.

Its the 5th ST I have had, managed to get them with Military discount and then sell on 6 months later for a new one. However, the bubble has now burst and am just after something different. My commute is only 18 miles return now

The VX220 sounds like a very sensible option, just need to sell mine...which is quite difficult at the moment...

VX220 turbo get my thumbs up. Had a stage1 one, and fantastic car. Same engine more or less thats in the missus Zafira GSI, which is also a great car for what it is.

I should have never sold it.

I sold my 03 a couple of years ago with 26K miles and had just been painted all over to remove stone chips to a high standard before I sold it for just £13K. Good ones even now still seem to be fetching on or around that money. Really kick myself for not just hanging onto it.

Only TVR I would and have considered is the more old school rover V8 TVR Chimera, and even these with the claimed reliability I think I would always be getting in it each day wondering it it will get me from point A to point B, and be concerned at some point I WILL be facing a hefty bill.

 

What do you want the car for? These are real sports cars! I was undecided between a TVR Griffith 500 and the Type R (that I finally bought). The TVR was mental - especially in the wet - too much so.

If it's a weekend toy and will be garaged and you're prepared for the big bills when it goes wrong then it may be a good move. If it's a daily car, then forget it, it will become tiresome and a nightmare with electrical gremlins

 

The tvr has had alot of attention over the years, and it will only get worse!

 

But sooooo tempting eh?

 

Oh yes you've got to have at least one TVR in your lifetime
