Hi All, Can anyone help me with a bit of info on rocker gaskets?? I've got a V4 Sti and the offside rocker is leaking onto the exhaust (typical), My dilemma is I can get a rocker kit for the EJ20G engine but not for my EJ20K redtop,, Are they the same rocker covers for all the EJ20 engines does anyone know?? and will the EJ20G kit fit my scoob Feedback would be well apreciated...

they differ between phases.

Most people remove the rocker cover, remove the gasket, clean the groove and gasket, put a thin bead of loctite gasket round, refit the gasket, add another dash of loctite, refit the rocker cover hand tight and then after a day **** them up to full torque.
easy and costs a total of about ~£12.

 

how easy is it to remove the rocker cover gasket with the engine still in the car. roughly how long does it take?

 

Definitely doable in car.
Took me about half an hour or so each side, left it overnight to cure a little then about 4 minutes to tighten up fully.

Another little trick I use is to put a washer (8mm) around the base of the shanked bolt, this helps to pull the cover down a bit tighter, make sure when you put the instant gasket in the groove you squash the gasket right in and wipe away any overspill. Don't put any on the face of the gasket though, it won't do much and may drop into the engine!!

 

I disagree, I put ,loctite in the groove and also on the gasket face when it was seated, then I let it go off.
In the morning I bolted it back up and its not leaked a drop
