we all generally make sure we change our engine/gearbox/diff oils and even brake fluid. Ive never heard anyone mention changing the power steering oil/fluid.

My cars an 02 and that im aware off its never been changed so thats 6/7 years worth of work its done. Ofcourse i relise it doesnt do as much hard labours as engine oils etc.

But I assume like all other oils it deteriorates so im thinking of changing it.

Anyone know if theres a drain plug for it and how much fluid the system holds when its empty?

Well there may be one, but I never found it. The bloody stuff gets everywhere. Best way is to get a big syringe and a bit of tube and suck it all up with that. Take the lid off the header tank obviously.

 

yea thats an idea but that wont empty the system totally, ofcourse the pipe work and rack are stoll going to have the old stuff in.

I guess thats the method im going to have to use and just get all i can out

 

NO I can guarantee you went empty it. It's like a never ending fountain of crud that doesn't run out. You can get the level down far enough with a syringe that just stuffing a rag in the end of the pipes keeps it at bay.
