it says on website that for tuning you need the pro add on.

....if just the ks-3 is not adequate for tuning then why is it ok for monitoring?.....bit confusing

The KS3 is an advance on the old Knocklink.

It is used for monitoring knock.

If you are tuning your car you will also want to listen to DET, hence the Pro-add on.

Only tuners tend to buy the Pro-add on, everyone else uses the KS3 to monitor DET.
