Hi Guys

I keep getting this strange noise from the back of my WRX when I go over some speed bumps, I've had a bit of a search on here and found that is usually the STI's that have the issue but wondered if any Hawkeye WRX owners has had them replaced.

Seems to be coming from rear offside and sounds a little metalic, what is the normal type of noise I could expect if the shock has gone?

If it has gone I'm still under warranty but thought I'd find out if this is a possibility or whether one of my daughters toys is back there someone rattling away.

As I say its only seems to be on speed bumps, not when cornering and I've not noticed anything happening when I come to stop.

Before you go replacing the rear strut, have had the rear arb bushes checked or the top mounts check for tightness? Does the knocking happen only at low speeds and or parking?

Reason I as is that, my dad experienced the same knocking on his 03 blobeeye WRX coming from the front n/s suspension. A friend I know said replace the struts at the front. which he did and it did not cure the problem. It was in fact a worn ARB bush.

 

I've had all four struts replaced under warranty on my MY05 WRX. I think the MY06 has the same struts which, iirc, are the same as on STis so this could be your problem.

Have you had Prodrive springs fitted? I have had occasional clunks from mine when going over sleeping policemen.

 

They are KYB struts on WRX and STi's

 

Both my rear struts were replaced under warranty at 11k on a 55 WRX

 

One of mine knocked at the rear, but it turned out it just needed tightening. Quite common apparantly.
