Question

Is it worth paying the extra for protected no claims bonus ? I am not sure how it works.
Would the premium not go up a huge amount anyway, because you had an accident and would be considered a risk ? And is it right that protected no claims only applies to the company you are with ? i.e. if you change companies you would have no no claims bonus ?

any info greatly appreciated
thanx

Craig

I think it works in your favour to protect your ncb.
I believe the risk is assesed before the ncb is taken of the premium.
So although your premium would go up, as you said your a greater risk, you would only get something like a 40% reduction instead of 60% .
I`ve never had a problem transfering my ncb and I have claimed twice.

Thumbs up

Much has been written on this - do a search of the insurance section.

The answer is yes - protect it.

The solution is - don't make any claims

Most insurance companies let you have one own fault accident without it affecting the premiums whereas this automatically loses you 2 years no claims so it is worth protecting. Definately worth it if anyone else drives your car on your policy because you are protected if you have to claim from an accident that was their fault.
