Can anyone recommened a good car cover as ive not got a garage & my car has to sit outside on the drive beside some trees & im sick of cleaning tree sap off it in the summer & leaves & the like off it in the winter.

Also are there any pro's & con's about using car covers????

I've got one of these as I had to keep mine outside for a year.
Specialised Covers - car covers, bike covers, caravan covers
Works a treat. Breathes. Car maybe damp in the early morning but drys out.

Con's. Can scratch your car if you get dirt underneath. Not good around firework night!

big no no for me 2, had one for my leon and it did more damage than good

Great inside a garage but not much use on the street sorry otherwise you wouldn't need one. Unless you have something worth putting in a stocking inside a garage.

I had to keep mine outside for a year with very little mileage being done and there were lots of trees and therefore birds doing their thing.

Mine had four straps underneath and was custom made for a WRX (snug fit) so didn't marr much as I used to pressure wash it off at the IMO before going home which was OK as only used it occasionally. Nothing on there that a day of clay, Megs 85RD and final finish with a few layers of Blackfire finished off with a good seal didn't cure.

Clarke if you think they are bad then surely bird lime, insect droppings and tree sap are worse?

At the end of the day if you don't have a garage and you buy a good lined and breathable one that was bespoke to the car you have then its better than standing on the street collecting airbourne deposits to bond with the paint.

 

Good point, but if the car is given a few decent coats of a good quality last step product (wax or sealant), then all that usually has to be dealt with is bonded contaminants rather than sub-surface defects - surely better for the paint in the long-run. With no driving, the last step product should last a lot longer, and be able to resist etching caused by birds crap, etc. That said, I would keep an eye out and ensure any fresh crap is rinsed off asap. If I had a car that I needed to store outside, I would opt for lots of paint protection and occasional washing as opposed to a cover, as they can do a fair amount of damage - but I do accept that if they fit very well and are only applied to perfectly clean cars then they may make sense to some people.
