Are the gearbox internals from a Sti gearbox stronger.are this just a different ratio than a WRX gearbox

Up to MY00 the majority of STi gearbox internals are the same as the non-STi cars. The drop gears and final drive are different.

AFAIK my MY98 WRX gearbox has exactly the same ratios as the STI IV and V. I've based this assumption on info from the Internet and pictures I've seen of an STI V's speedo and rev counter at about 155 mph.
