Default Driving in the USA

Will be going to Florida in August and looking to hire a car while i'm out there.

Does anyone know if any convictions picked out there, ie. speeding are transferable to UK license?

Nope but my brother was stopped, pulled over, guns drawn laid down on the road and given a $1000 fine for speeding.

Not sure if this is standard procedure, basically police told him as it's rental car it could of been any nutcase driving it so they take no chances.

As your tourist if not out there for more than 6 months your most likely to receive a hefty fine and possibly have your license revoked in that country.

Soon points you receive in Europe will transfer to UK license anyone know when that takes effect?

In Belgium I got a 300 Euro fine for doing 96 km/h in a 80 km/h zone (approx 11mph over limit), taken in escort to cash point, worked out around £230 so £21 for every mph over the limit.

I never moan though do so many miles there and if I speed I have to take the consequences on the chin, that speed trap that caught me is quite often there, I learnt the hard way but certainly don't speed there now.

i did about 2500 miles across America a few years back, never had any problems . Spoke to a few locals and they basically advised me to stick to the limits within the city borders, but if its quiet out in the "boonies" (as they called it) then you'll get away with a fair bit over the limit. Just look out for patrols on the Interstates, they love to sit on the far sides of hill crests where you can't spot them until its too late.....

and the above post was correct (or certainly was when i was there) - convictions couldn't be transferred across to UK licence.

And be aware that police cars can detect your speed when driving towards you.

There are more police patrols numbers on the road so be aware of that.

Put it this way you don't want to get banged up in USA...
