I have a 99T Turbo in green with air con and PIAA spots, 24,000 miles, FSH, etc, etc.

And yesterday I was offered £12,000 as a trade in against a TVR.

Is anyone else having the same problem? I'm quite happy to keep the car, which I will now do, as I really think this takes the p1ss!!!

Anyone agree, or do I just overvalue my car??

Strangely enought Evo has just done a spread on buying a used Scooby.
They're targets were pre-99 UK cars and basically our cars aint worth **** in the second-hand market place.
I was 'generously' offered 13k for mine a few months ago against an Evo VI and a BMW dealer actually said "They must have seen you coming" when I told him how much I originally paid for my car.
Laugh, I could have got done for GBH!

 

...But we all wanted cheaper new cars...and the knock on effect is....

 

YES - but the new scooby is MORE expensive !!

Everything has dropped through the floor - if you feel sad just spare a tear for the Jap import boys - holding worthless pieces of kit. I nearly got a Jap import myself as once it was the only way to get a Scoobie without the wait - thank god I didn't!

I am looking for a car for the wifey - as a run-around.... and I am amazed that cars over, say, 6-7 years have no value whatsoever - its an amazing state of affairs but we all win by buying cheaper cars.

The car dealers are still asking top money of course while offering cr4p P/Ex prices - just dont change

Just this week I was offered 12,800 for my MY99 5 door with 22K miles (no Aircon or PIAA lights either).

As stated, a new Scoob is more expensive.
And how much do these cars cost in their country of origin ...
Well 26k for a Skyline GTR V-Spec which balloons to 50k when it gets here.
Must be the cost of shipping and converting the cars from Jp RHD to UK RHD or something.
Its very annoying. Unfortunately, we just have to bend over and take it up the exhaust pipe as usual

sometimes i wonder if its best just to do a personal lease? or alternatively, buy cars that are really cheap, say a pulsar, then get rid of em when bored with it.
must say its a suprise to learn how much ive lost on mine already then ( my00 uk car) but seeing as the new impreza looks as inviting as a grannys dried up minge, i'll be going for a r34 skyline next time. or maybe a focus cosworth....if i could put up with crap widscreen wipers, numerous faults, plummeting values etc etc....nah, wont buy ford again ( ex puma owner, and now very much in love with my scooby)

 

When I traded my S99 scoob against a P1 last year May, I only got 15k for it. Dealership (Oaken, w/hampton) then slapped £2500 and tried to sell it. Prospective buyer got in touch with me though, and I told him the trade-in price -- hope he got a good deal after that! Ha! Ha!

Thought I'd check trade-ins on my P1 (I'll need something cheaper when it comes out of the workshop - wacked the offside rear). Offers around £20000 from some conmen (6k on the clock).

As for scoobs in general... Autotrader had around 680 listed the last time I checked, so it's a buyers market drat drat drat.

Worth shopping around though - Ralliart offered me 26000 against a VR6 manual.

 

I was offered £13,000 now against a new £45,000 Tuscan that I've had on order for over a year - the TVR will take 2 months to get here, so there'll be 2500 more miles on the Scoob, so £12K by then.
Needless to say I'll be keeping the Scoob and walking away from the TVR, although a Caterham is very likely to keep it company shortly, if any of you think you can keep up with a Superlight R on a track.......

 

The Skyline is £50k because that is what Nissan decided that it could charge in the UK. They knew that there was demand for it - and for sort of car that it is, they thought that they could get away with charging 50k for it.

A pity really - I'd love to have a Skyline GTR for sub £30k.

 

Not just Scoobs - I've just bought a Mondeo estate which had a list price of £17000 for £3500. 2 years old, 40k miles, still has a year's warranty. OK, so it's a boring car, but it's cheap for doing big miles in.

If you really want to get shafted on depreciation, buy a TVR Cerbera - I've seen optioned-up ones (£50k+ new) going for £30k after a year.

I paid £7000 for my MY93 WRX and got £1500 trade in on my G reg Peugeot 405 = £5500 for a scoob. Pi55ed my friend off no end as he paid £11,000 for a MY94 uk with 97,000 miles a year and a half ago.

 

it seems car dealers never lose. the govt. says drop car prices, so dealers get round this by offering absurd trade in prices for your car. they pretty much always win in the end

 

Friend of mine has a Vectra Super Touring 200 (!) (GSI with MSD mods). Paid new £26000 in 1998. Offered £7500 today. Sick guy.

 

All cars are crap at holding their value.
You should not buy a car with an eye on future values only on the enjoyment you can get at the time.
Look at any £20,000 car two years down the line and I bet the scoobs are still out in front on trade in value. Main stream Vauxhals, Fords, Rovers etc are worth peanuts after two years and I know which car I would rather have been driving for those two years. The scoob is excellent fun and at the end of the day thats what its all about having enjoyment getting around from A to B in a tin box!
