Default fuel pump relay burnt out

Hi found the pump burnt out at first were the wires met the pump, changed that and all was fine then the fuel relay burnt out? the pump only runs to fill the swirl pot in the boot and its a walbro 255.The only other thing is i took a spur of to switch the relay on for the second pump, any thoughts on why it would do this?

So there is two pumps drawing off the single std relay?
The current kick when they both start up is going to be 20-30 Amps.
Feed each pump with its own relay, with wiring to suit in excess of any current kick.

The second pump only takes a feed of the original relay to activate the second pumps relay, fed witha separate live.
Cheers for your response

Presumably that was convenient at the time?
Safest option is to avoid extra drain on the original relay or to uprate the original relay to take care of any start-up or constant state extra load.

PS: 15 years is quite good anyway, assuming it was the original relay.

OK - I understand the wiring now.
Has the fuse to the burnt out relay been beefed up?
What's the current draw for the swirl pot pump relay coil?
I'd also suggest having separate feeds for live and relay coil on each pump.
Also check for damage on any wiring to pumps.
