what is the thing brass coulerd thing under the manifold with the vac hoses to it

Fuel pressure regulator. And those are fuel rails not vacuum lines connected to it. The Vac hose goes to the disconnected nipple.

 

sorry my mistake its not the thing thats ringed its the other thing thats further back im interested in.....sorry
it has vac hoses and an electrical connection

 

Can't say I've seen it on a stock engine. Solenoid of some sort most likely. Can't guess what it's used for.

 

purge valve for the emission re-circ system, connected to the carbon canister on the drivers side inner wing............

as long as you take off all the pipe-work you can do away with it totally and simply leave the purge valve connected electronically
