I'm thinking of changing the downpipe on my scoob, but I have some questions...

I presume in replacing the downpipe I'll lose the first cat - what will that do to the cat in the mid section?

If I leave in the standard mid section, will that still provide additional 'performance', ie; increase throttle response, etc?

Finally, with a UK spec MY00 and PPP, what downpipe would best compliment this model/setup?

Please don't put me in the muppet forum!

ps. if the search facility was back, I'd have used it!

Question

I thought you would prefer to be in the Drivetrain section
If you leave the centre section with the cat you should feel the car picking up a lot quicker and also hear your turbo whistling.
MY98 with PPP Scoobysport DP, custom made 3in centre section [thanks Pete Croney] and HKS Super Drager backbox. I'm happy
Hiper muffler a LOT louder.
Scoobysport complete system very loud.
Can't comment on Scorpion or Mongoose.
But there is/was a Mongoose for sale in private. Might still be there ...

MY00 PPP doesn't have a cat in the centre section but gains are to be made my swapping it for a straight through centre section (I went for the Scorpion one at £65 - no cat, no silencer, big )

I have a MY99 PPP and have fitted a Falkland downpipe (and PX induction kit) and it goes well but the Scoobysport is virtually identical, so take the closer option!

You certainly won't be disappointed

Question

Is falklands still up and running? I heard a rumour a few months back that they got burnt down... maybe just a rumour tho?

Have a listen to different set-ups first. Go for an extended test drive (I mean more than a couple of minutes). The noise level may not be to your liking.

I am speaking from experience. Have recently put the std downpipe back because of the noise (had a Scorpion one). With the std dp I could definitely feel the restriction in performance, but I was glad to lose the noise. Trade-offs, trade-offs...

Good luck

that bad, eh?

Okay, for you all with replaced DPs or complete straight through systems, how long does it take to get tired of the noise? 100miles on the motorway?

I don't this'll affect my decision.

Both our MY00 cars fitted with full decatted SS systems - LUV the noise - one of them will be going on a round trip to Switzerland in March - 1500 miles or more - looking forward to those alpine tunnels......

I have the SS downpipe and silencer but not the mid section on my car in the UK. On motorway driving the noise is not intrusive, you kinda leave it behind you

Dave try the tunnels on the A5 in North Wales

I can't wait to get my car back to Sydney and do the Sydney Harbour Tunnel

B&C......good luck to you!

Personally i would go to another Surrey dealership or could even put you in touch with the best private Scooby mechanic in the country, and he's right on your doorstep.

Sunil, can you mail me off line and give your experiences of B&C - I've still got misgivings about them, but no real evidence.

Also, the name/addr of your mechanic (I assume I'll have to order in the SS DP?)

.... also, what sort of bhp/torque figures can I reasonably expect on top of a UK MY00+PPP? - there doesn't seem to be a specific fitting example on dyno scoobynet.

seems a bit of an optimistic set of figures tho'.

When's the next dyno day? I'll be there with my new DP.

Les/Fosters, if youre in Surrey, he is on your doorstep and i trust Danny has done the deed

Fosters,
No nothing needs recalibrating or tuning. Just drive and enjoy, the ECU will adapt if necessary.

RE: noise levels generated by straight thru exhausts.

I have a straight thru set-up: Scorpion front, magnex centre and rear.

Funny thing is, my baby boy, 9 mnths old, can only go to sleep when I drive him in my Scooby

Thanks

Sonu
