Default Uprated droplinks

I have an 04 Sti with ball type rear droplinks, the 03 Sti I have been told has solid type. Having already fitted uprated rear roll bar can I fit a solid link or does it have to be a ball type, as I have heard they can seize up. Has anyone fitted solid type links to an 04 Sti or recommend the ball type?
Why did Subaru change the link type on the same model?
Please help as mine are now knocking and need to be replaced.

I have a set on my classic at the front for about a year now. I always squirt a shot of lub into the ball by easing the light seal back and squirt. There is zero play/rattles at the moment.
