I've just had my suspension replaced on my MY99 RB5 with some KYB Excel dampers and Eibach Pro-Kit springs. I did try to get KYB springs, but they don't do any for my car.

The roll bars, drop links are standard, but I have 18" alloys and some Noltec adjustable top mounts on the front (road version).

The car drives fine, but I really notice it being bouncy. I had the same issues with the old suspension (P1 dampers & springs) and hoped this would settle it down as the old dampers were leaking.

I'm going to re-fit my 17" alloys now they have been refurbed, but I was wondering if it is something more fundamental and the KYB/Eibach are just a bad match?

Not sure what you mean by bouncy, if you go round each corner, and press on the car to load up the suspension, then let go, the car should re-bound back up then settle. If it doesn't it normally indicates worn out shocks, but in your case these are new. Do you know what rate the springs are?

If the ride is harsh over uneven surfaces, it could be that the springs are to strong, or the dampers cannot control compression/rebound forces.

 

I think my RB5 has slightly softish suspension too matey, especially on the front, but its not severe, just a little softer than i would like, but i have 50mm h+r springs in the car!!

Im gonna go for the AST Coilover setup in the summer anyway cuz its supposed to be the best for road use!!

Theory- if you fit stiff springs, on the motorway the deflection is too little to enable the dampers to move and to dampen, so the car bounces. Plausible?

 

It feels a bit stiff, so every bump appears to move the whole car up & down.

I'm gonna refit the orginal 17's first.

I had the Eibach's on my original dampers and they were never like this. Hoping the new KYB's aren't way off the balance from the OE KYB.

 

Yep, i had eibachs mate and to be honest they were far better suited to the car but i wanted lower so until i could afford coilovers i went for the 50mm h+r's!! Theyre ok but not as good on the road as the eibachs!!
