Default Need advice on AST setup

Car is MY06 STI with Whiteline front and rear arbs and Whiteline ALK. I received this ofer from AST dealer in Italy:

"we have in stock a Sportline II kit for your Impreza and we can
offer it to you at 1800,00€ VAT included.
springs rate 75kgs
front/50kgs back."

What are you think about this spring rate setup for my car? Thanks

IMHO: Too hard.

For road/track 50/40 Fr/Rr or 60/50.

60/50:
DropShots.com
50/40
DropShots.com

Suspension AST 3 ways, roll bars the same, both in the dry.

Default Hard springs

Ohhh 75/50! Ow!

I bought my 2 way adjustable ASTs with 60/50 fr / r springs way too hard! ( wanna buy some 60 kg/cm springs ? )

Now it is 50/40 fr/r and still too hard over speed ramps and potholes, even uneven roads!
I find the dampers don't get chance to work as the springs do not allow enough travel, even though dampers are set at 6 clicks front, 4 clicks rear.

Local expert supplier / garager / tuner - Powerstation reccommends road use 40/30 fr/rear!

Think I will try the 40/30 springs, and slightly stiffer damper setings soon.

Would not dissagree at all.

iirc Neil, the 40/30 is about stock Sti rating?

About that Graham, but that's what Curtis told me when selling me the 40 springs!

Don't know if there are 45/35's !

What clicks on your bump/rebound are you running, if your 3 way's relate to 2 ways? I am on 2 or 3 on rear, 5 or 6 on front as the springs don't seem to allow the dampers to actually move much! Harsh over speed bumps especially as coming off the hump!

Sorry - partial thread hi-jack!

On my one-ways:

50/40 = 7 / 6 clicks from soft (Fr Rr)
60/50 = 9 or 10 / 7 or 8 from soft.

Those worked a treat on my car, hillclimb or road.

3 ways are FAR FAR more complicated to get right!

I have always tried to get close to an old rule that the rear rates should be 80% of the fronts. (info from GGRacing, Whiteline)

I think in the newage it is now recomended to have a 20 difference between front and back. i have 60/40 as recomended by curtis.

If your driving roads are rough use a softer rate, 50/40.
The New age cars are a touch heavier than a classic so with work these rates a bit harder.

If your roads are smooth then you can afford to runa bit harder, 60/50

The little trick here is to buy a pair of 40's and 50's and 60's and you can tune everything. The springs are not that expensive.(at least not in the UK)

Mine are 50/30 (from Powerstation) and I have no complaints - a good compromise between the stiffness needed on the track, and the softness needed for our roads. My passengers complain about how hard the ride is (but they should try stock STi suspension!) and I have no complaints on the track...the limitation is me and my driving not the car

60/50's are way too hard for UK roads in my opinion...... even on a newage, on track though it is brilliant. This is what is currently set-up on the Spec C, albeit on the 3way adjustable ones. Mine is being changed and revalved back to the Type25 road car settings. When I test drove that it was sublime on the road and that is were my car will be used more and more as time goes on.

It's horses for courses, but I have had 60/50's for two years now and the time has come for a change to enable me to get the best out of the car. This has become more evident on the road with the amount of power I am now running.

I too have tried the 60/50 route, and the 50/40 is soooo much better.

Way back, I was told by several places with experience (ie Whiteline Australia) that the rear spring rate for a Classic should be 80% of the rear, hence 50/40.

I'm running a newage on AST coilovers with 50/40 springs. In these parts of Cumbria, the roads are appalling, so even using very gentle settings on the dampers, the car was still a bit skittish. I spoke to Curtis and he revalved the front shocks to make the ride more compliant. The result was stunning - the car is now a dream to drive even at on the roughest most potholed road at 100 leptons/hr. This is how the AST shocks should come valved from the factory in IMO

Interesting!
Curtis re-valved my One Ways years ago for 50/40 and the car was great.
Without doing a dis-service to the mega 3 ways, good one ways are really good for all conditions, though many will dissagree (and ignore costs too).

Very subjective issue.
