if i wanted to see 300bhp and similar torque from my uk classic, what sort of turbos could i use?
im considering getting a low mileage one second hand if the seller is trust worthy and then having it fitted/remapped to achive hopefully above figure.
vf28, vf34?
the car as many know is a my99 uk classic. have a good panel air filter on there and a full 3" decat (nur spec-r), so i would have hoped 300 was a good target? i would be happy with that for this car.
suggestions on capable turbos please? second hand/recon prices also? the car wont/doesnt see track days and its mainly just for little squirts now and again.
cheers, andy

for that level TD04 hybrid mate.
You'll want an uprated fuel pump, 3 port boost solenoid and I'd reccomend the samco turbo hose kit, and ported and wrapped headers too.
Would make for a supremely responsive drive and should get you to 300 and similar torque
As usual, I'd suggest you have a chat with David at APi

Original (?) 70K clutch is still OK (except occasionally on cold/damp days in 5th at around peak torque - only happened once or twice so not really a major issue as yet
)UK MY99

Zen put a VF35 on mine (~£250 second hand IIRC) Uprated fuel pump, Roger Clark 3" Sports Cat system , STi8 intercooler + Paul's magic all combine to give about 325-330. Any more and I'd be worried about my gearbox

)so looking at responces thus far, uprated fuel pump seems important too.
so safely im looking at
new turbo
remap
fuel pump
as minimum to get to my target
gearbox is new, clutch is new so 300 shouldnt be an issue.

He may have been under the impression that you already have an uprated fuel pump. I would say you should definately consider that!! Generally folks upgrade the fuel pump when remapped on the std TD04. 3 port boost solenoid also a good idea, can be had for 20ish quid second hand and will enable better boost control.
You don't need the hose kit and the ported and wrapped headers, but the std hoses can split under increased boost pressure and the ported headers are just a good mod: lower boost threshold, improve responsiveness and get a few more ponies out of the car across the rev range.
How much do you want to spend?

oh and the samco kit which includes the y-pipe and intercooler hose. is this what you mean ns04?
i presume if i could get hold of the boost solenoid and turbo/fuel pump, david would fit them the day of the map?
i dont wanna go ott, as the car has 136,000miles on the clock (current engine is 66k) so i dont wanna spend £1000s when eventually its worth nothing.
so a safe 300bhp for a couple years is what im after.
sooo...
remap £?
turbo £300
fuel pump £?
solenoid £20-30
well bear in mind what ever you have done will be usable on the new engine, if the worst happens, but im running a vf34 and supporting mods at 340bhp on a my00 uk turbo with 85k on it and its fine.
although i should add i'm on a ppg gearbox, but that went before i got to 340

i have a vf28, that should see u to 340 with supporting mods, spools up quick as well so good for ur short "squirts" but for more power u wana get the vf34 that can go 400bhp
i looking to get the vf34 as myself, just need to sort other things out 1st
btw u would need that fuel pump just to b safe, they not that expensive either
i currently running same car as u:
440 injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump,
vf28,
decat ninja uppipe n centre,
magnez backbox,
remapped,
got a printout for 284bhp with 280torque - a more aggressive remap would prob stretch to 300bhp

340is also VERY rare on a VF28, 300-320 range more common.
As the OP wants 300 a hybrid TD04 would be the best bet as it spools the quickest at that power level.
Ns04
Take Tidgy's word for it mate; you're not going to get 400bhp out of a 34, not unless by supporting mods you mean a) Nitrous or b) a very optimistic RR

) and "the turbo would be under a lot of strain to get that figure". Again, expressed in a less polite manner!
which dyno was it on? lol
there are some very optimistic ones out there lol.
although you do sometimes get odd ones that break the mould and the trend, i have seen a standard td04 break 300, only just, but it did witht he right supporting mods.
also got 258bhp and 280ftlb on my old td04, which is strange for the torwue to be so high

normally doesn't get as good results as the vf's, but a capable turbo, would prefer to get the 18g myself for that bit of breathing space, well had i not got the vf34 lol
