Hi just wanted to add my experience of a Dump Valve, it was keep making the car hesitate under load and often the timing sensor would come on it sounded great but I seemed to loose power and the Turbo Gauge showed it wasn’t boosting so much either I took it off its harder to get the original pipe back on but worth the effort as the car is so much better without the DV. Boost is back and it’s smoother too.

Add mine name to those who say don’t bother with a Dump Valve

I have a classic STI with a VTA Dump valve on it.
Do you just need the standard valve and remove the blank to put it back to standard or is there anything else I would need?

you should have taken off the std DV and a small bit of pipe when removing the std dv.

 

Hi exactly that, it took longer than but putting the DV on as its fiddly getting the pipe and the clip after you’ve removed the blank back on, have fun

Don't expect the turbo to last as long without the dump valve though...

 

How is the life of the Turbo affected by replacing VTA with std valve?
VTA or Std valve as long as it has one of them surely there is no problem with turbo life.

 

I done the exact same thing today aswell runs and idles a lot better imo!

I found removing the tmi made it a lot easier to reconnect the bigger pipe
and it was alot less hassle then trying to fiddle about under/beside it

 

Think he means ditching the recirc oe valve..........may shorten the life of some turbochargers......dont think it will matter too much on my Garret unit though.

 

Well if I remember rightly I read an article written by someone from garret that clearly stated that the stresses put on the turbo by running without a dump valve will shorten the life of the turbos. I have no experience of this however its just what I read on sxoc when people were asking about running without a dv.

 

It may well shorten the life of the turbo,but my car is only used a couple of times a month......and not letting the turbo cool down or ragging the nuts off of it would also shorten its life.......

The information i was given was that it would be fine to run with no valve.

 

Good work rooferman, i've blanked mine with t-cut caps and cable ties. U can tell im a purist

 

bailey dump valves give nothing but problems stay away in my opinion spend a little extra an buy a hks ssqv

 

It's a mid-life crisis but I like VTA dumpvalves - that said I have opted for a GFB WRX Hybrid - it recirculates and makes all the right noises (well a matter of taste I agree) - never had any problems.

 

ive had a Bailey for about 8 months or so and its fine so far

for classics at least you need to have the DV26 version to avoid some problems
