I have same model car mate - do a search and you will finds literally dozens of threads. Think it got sorted in the end by Subaru, though has been a royal PITA for some people.
Mine started knocking soon after buying car. Took it to Scoobyclinic to do both rears, cost about £300. So far, so good (early December 07 replacement).

BTW does your de-resonated section make much difference with burble?

not sure to tell you the truth mate, was on the car when i bought it, does sound nice though, not loud but deep. not too keen on th look so might change it.
these were changed and subaru ones put back on last summer but lad cant find invoice, is the shocker still fine or does it need replacing?
