Remove Smartnav from Spec-D
I pick-up a Spec-D next week, which has Smartnav. The car will be parked on the street, so I'd prefer to remove the unit, but I've seen a couple of threads suggesting that the unit is wired into the dash. Any done this before or got any advice?
Its not a removeable system mate... it is wired into the dash, and I guess most tea leaves will know this too. Plus, they'd be really desperate to try and steal one of these, they're crap.. IMO.
Good decision with the car though..... another one of the 300 Spec-D's on here. There are a few of us here.
Cheers,
Grant

The bit on the dash is presumably only a screen and no good on it's own.
Plus they ARE crap IMO as well.
There is an option to get a removable screen, but it costs £100. Why it isn't std beats me.
Another Spec D owner had a faulty std screen and wangled a removable one to replace it.
I'd agree with the system not being too brilliant. I won't be renewing my subscription for the Nav part, but the tracker element is a must.

Trouble is, the hoodies in my area are a bit thick and would probably think it's worth something (leaving me with a probable glass insurance job). Also, 'cos it's crap, I guess I don't need it anyway...
Even if you remove the screen, you can still navigate by pressing the Smartnav button and telling the operator where you want to go.
I think the subscription given with the Spec D allows 365 goes with this and then you pay per request.

I use the unit in my Spec D a lot, and its far better than the old Navman I used to have due to live updates. I'm impressed with mine.
Butty iss correct about there being a set amount of operator assisted calls, but if you use the postcode entry system (which is full postcode search), then its unlimited.
I've had mine over a year and never needed to call for operator assistance, always use postcode.
