HR (Human Remains) departments exist purely for management's benefit. They do nowt for ordinary employees so I try to have a s little to do with them as possible. Any expectations you have of HR, other than not helping you, are expectations too far ....

They are usually idle, useless, inept and / or incompetent (or should that be incontinent !!) it also seems to be the ones who are unable to retain confidential information, they are about as secure as the DWP !

Ahh reminds me of my interaction with Jaguar's HR dept.
All they did was bring in people from recruitment consultants. Yet PR was putting out adverts left right and centre for jobs and to apply at Jag's HR dept.
All applicants sent to HR went into the bin. Afterall, why do all the donkey work when one can just pick up the phone and get someone else to do it?
If managment had their brains in gear, they could save themselves a bundle by sacking the complete HR staff and just using the recruitment consultants direct to manage HR.

They are there to think up more schemes that involve filling forms in regarding your performance and call them PDP's, Development reviews, etc etc.
Also used as hatchet men for senior managers, at the Police it was pathetic, every time someone got pulled up for something all they had to do was to get a union rep in to pull them up on some mistake they had made in following procedure, it was amazing how they could make the unofficial sound official and then get tied in knots by someone who had just read the procedures.

The protection for bad employees is actually pretty poor. But the standard of most British management is even poorer. If you have a reasonable procedure in place, and stick to it, then it's d*mn nearly impossible for a sacked employee to win a tribunal. They win because slack-witted and incompetent managers either **** up the procedures, don't follow them, or there aren't any. Most managers ignore the problem for too long, then massively over-react.
