I woke up yesterday morning to find Scooby with a really red and swollen muzzle and eyes. She looked terrible and not unlike she'd been out on the booze and had a fight before falling into bed drunk
(she hadn't BTW
).
Her nose was quite swollen and she seemed to be breathing OK so I debated whether to call the emergency vet or not. This is her at that point (I took the pics as a point of reference and to show Bob when he returned from work later on), her eyes and muzzle are very swollen and red and she has a few strange lumps on her head:

Shortly afterwards she was sick all over her bed so I rang the vet. The vet said it sounded like an allergic reaction and arranged to meet me and Scooby at the surgery immediately. She gave Scoob a steroid jab to stop the reaction and told me to keep a close eye on her and to ring if she worsened. After we got back this happened (warning - contains vomit):

She became very subdued and more and more lumps were starting to appear:

I rang the vet again and she told me to give her half an antihistamine tablet which I did.
However the lumps continued to get bigger and bigger and started to join up:

By this time I was getting seriously worried and spoke to the vet again. She'd told me earlier in the day to keep my eyes on her tongue as it could swell and cause asphyxiation
She said that if her condition got any worse it was looking like they'd have to admit her overnight
After a little while she started to look a little better in the face, her muzzle and eyes looked a little less swollen and the lumps were looking a little less red.

By now it was just after 4pm and I realised I'd not had a bite to eat since waking up so I had a pitta bread and a little dip. Within two bites I felt a crunch and realised that my crown had broken leaving a lovely gap in my teeth
On the upside Scooby's lumps were starting to go down and she was starting to look better. Within another hour the lumps and swelling had all but disappeared, the vet said to keep an eye on her and give her the other half of antihistamine before bed. Unfortunately by now Scooby had no bed as I'd had to wash it (I'd already washed the cover after she was sick on that) and it was dripping over the bath looking like it would be at least four days before it dried. I made her a temporary bed on the guest bed instead which she looked very pleased about as she is never allowed on the beds!
This morning she looked back to her usual silly self bar a few small lumps on her back which soon disappeared. I went and got my tooth fixed and all was back to normal again, what a start to the new year!!
We don't know what caused Scoob's allergic reaction and we've searched the house and garden but found nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing she has which looks a bit unusual is a small dark patch on her leg which may or may not be an insect bite or sting, I guess we'll never find out!
Oh and the vet's bill was £74 for the call out and jab

Glad to hear the doggie is doing well and you are fixed up as well. One thought...it can only get better from here! Couple of years ago we ran out of heating fuel on Xmas day and couldn't get anyone out for a couple of days...swell Xmas freezing our butts off for a couple of days. Give the doggie a biscuit and a pat on the head from me
great pic bob, at least you can laugh about it now
I think it was scoob eating some of sally's xmas leftovers which caused the reaction
and you just know, it wasnt pitta bread, it was her opening beer bottles with her teeth
