Having only ever driven 1 scooby (my98), I do not know whether the following is normal (and only just got round to asking)...

When rolling along slowly to a junction etc and then wanting to speed off (as ya do :-). If I am rolling too slowly for second gear (eg I want 1st gear), then I cannot change to 1st gear until the car is almost completely stopped.

As I mention, I have no frame of reference so have to ask the question... Is this normal for a scoob?

If not, then does anyone know a likely cause?

hello there..tis normal.
without going into detail its to do with the syncromesh and
the way the gearbox works.
solution is to lift clutch in between gearchange i.e when gearbox
in neutral and then depress again and change into 1st - should slot more easily into gear.

Thought you were from the US for a mo' - they are going on about not being able to ram the thing into first whenever they want!!

Just be gentle and let the synchros do the job, and/or help by matching revs and things will work OK at low speeds.

Personally I would not do it much, as you can really stuff bits up if the thing don't want to go into 1st with any speed on (and you don't mention what "almost completely stop" is in your voacb ).

Thinner Oil will probably solve you'r "problem" - subaru's likes 75W90 synt'.

As an earlier thread said - be gentle. If you don't want to double clutch. Put clutch in, start to put it into first, when you meat resistance wait for couple of wheel rotations and put gearshift in rest of the way. Should slide in easy. If you're rolling slowly.
Works for me.
