Battery drain.... Alarm?
Hi all,
Having problems with my battery (which is new). I have also tested the alternator which isn't the problem.
Basically there is a drain on the battery of 70MA when the car is stationary (engine off, alarm off). I believe normal leakage should be between 10-50 MA depending on the age of the car.
However, when I arm the alarm, the drain goes up to 180MA and as such, the battery is too tired to crank the starter after a week and completely dead within two weeks.
Obviously, I believe the problem is the alarm which is a Clifford.
Has anybody else had any similar problems? Any idea of solutions? My mate suggest having the whole thing out and replaced but was hoping to have a cheaper option.
Many thanks
Rossi

I had exactly the same problem, although I didn't quite get the same drain when the alarm was set. Mine still has the factory sigma alarm and the battery wasn't new but I got the garage to do a drop test on the battery and it was fine.
Mine happened shortly after fitting a gauge set. Disconnected them and still got the same current draw.
In the end I bought a C-Tek3600 battery conditioner/charger. They're about £40 on ebay. My car has been sat for 8-weeks in the current cold snap and when I got it out at the weekend it started first time.

Have you got a tracker? There is a problem with some models causing drain, can't remember which ones although it was a popular one. Should be lots of threads about it.
Found it - it's the RAC Trackstar which causes major battery drain, there is an upgrade available to solve it.
If you have one of these further info here:
