Hi All, This is my 1st post, so please be gentle with me!

I have a 97P STI-3 Which I have now taken to 35000 Miles. I just need to know if the Gearbox & Diff Oil has to be changed, or Just Gearbox, etc. If anyone can let me know & even better if anyone can let me know which is the best oil to use, I will be eternally grateful.

yes change asap, should have been done by now. change both box and diff. my subaru has fsh and i know that subaru box and diff oil should be replaced every 30000miles from new (i.e. 30, 60 & 90 thousand miles).
mine has just had 60000mile service.
i checked the invoice to see what type of oil was used, but does not specify.
you should use a 75w/90 weighting, if you use thicker, problems occur when engaging first gear etc, especially when cold.
'Redline lightweight shockproof' is an oil that seems to be recommended. available from Demon Tweeks and the like.

Castrol Syntrax semi-synthetic is the stuff to use.
I would say use the search engine to find out more about the stuff, but it's down at the mo'.

Put some in mine at the 60,000 interval and it smoothed things out a treat. even got rid of my Synchro crunch on 1st to 2nd.

Halfords stock it at £9.99 per litre.

You will need 4 litres for the gearbox and 1 litre for the rear diff.

dead easy to change to as the gearbox drain plug is at the base of the box, just behind the crossmember. And you fill it up by pouring the new stuff down the 'Gearbox' dipstick hole.

I attached a slightly longer piece of hose to the bottle to make it a bit easier.

Should take about 40mins with most of this time being spent waiting for the oil to drain out of the gearbox.
