Well, the police did not want to release details (data protection etc) and suggested I try the DVLA.

Today a tow truck turned up, they used a crow bar to bend the door frame and take the steering lock off. The car had 5,000 miles!

They claimed it had no HPI claims and no registered owners, so they are now the new keepers!

I hate them, so close yet so far, but worst of all was the damage they did to get into the car and move it.
