Default Does an STi have fog lamps under covers?

Probably a stupid question, but I'm presently searching for my first scooby (silver 2002 STi WANTED) and have seen some STI's with foglamps, some with covers. Are there foglamps under those covers or are they just blanks? If so can foglights be fitted with clip off covers still or is it one or the other?

cool, thanks for the reply and apologies for what was probably a stupid question. Is it just a case of fitting WRX lamps and then the original covers back on? Easy or shall I give up now?!!

not sure how it works to be honest in my old wrx you have the switch inside but in my sti there is no button plus i don't know how you would get it all wired up, its easily posible to do some people do do it, i think you can get the kits to put them on easily enough, i wouldn't bother personaly i never used my fogs in my wrx at all

There's no foglights fitted behind the covers, no switch and no relay. But the good news is that all of the wiring is there (well it was on mine, MY02 STi Prodrive style). At the time you could buy a foglight kit which came with all the bits you needed; mounting brackets, light units, relay and switch.

The really good news though is that you can actually fit driving lights in place of the foglights, do some minor wiring mods behind the dash and have some lights that are actually of some use.

Mate,

Mine is a Bugeye STi V7 Type UK and it came with fog lights.

Prodrive wont do and iirc the STi 8 & 9 doesn't but the STi 7 (not prodrive bumper) does

do u mean the non prodrive STI 7 has foglights?

Or that it can accept foglights as the wiring is there but does not come with them?

My (non prodrive) STi 7 has fog lights which made think all STi 7 (non prodrive) have fog lights fitted.

They dont look like an after thought. The covers are easy removed to check

thanks nick, apologies for questions that probably seem obvious but I am new to Subarus after years of BMWs so am still learning! Whether they do have lamps or not won't affect me getting one but having found out that blob eye STIs don't I wondered if that was the same for bug eyes. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hi, i've been reading the FIA's regulations for Rallying, i think the answer to your question is there Regulations PDF Page ISC

subaru need to sell 25,000 subaru imprezas a year and 10% of them need to be WRX's in order for them to enter the WRC the following year. Although WR cars are group A, its a varient of the WRX (Group N) and it can enter the WRC under the Homologation Regultions

once the standard WRX gets to the Rally workshop, (its just a shell) They then turn it into a WR car. Although they can replace parts that were on the standard wrx, they cant add parts, so if fog lights were not on the wrx they entered the season with under the homologation regs, they cant add them (parts can be added under the Safety Equipment regulations eg Roll Cage but fog lamps are not listed there)

you probably dont get fog lights on most STI's cos they're just extra weight and if driving conditions require their use, u shouldnt really be driving. The STI that had fog lights was probably the car subaru entered the season with under the Homologation Regultions

peace

My sti version 8 has the covers but no lights behind.
Like the idea of putting driving lights there instead

Does it have a prodrive bumper?

I dont know enough about this but maybe it was an optional extra from the factory?

I honestly can see what MrLouKnee is saying can be correct as they would have to sell car with lamp pods and coil overs it it were

I've just fitted a pair of STi covers to my 04 blobeye and had to remove the foglight bezels to fit them.
On my old 00 bugeye i fitted covers without removing anything (a bracket was added to screw the cover bolt into

i cant find the homologation regs for 2004/5 but i can only presume that the car was entered into the WRC under the said regs, but it appears that a bog standard wrx gets entered into the WRC and the wrx sti's get entered into the the group N races, i thought it would of been the other way round

link here where it says the sti only valid for group N races

the reason the 2008 wrx is for sale now is so they can race in the championship next year (so long as they sell 25000 imprezas and 10% of them being wrx's)
What are you on about? The Impreza IIRC is currently the only car to offer a 4x4 turbo through the WRX so how are all the other manufacturers getting their cars through then?
