I have a MY06 WRX with PPP that simply crys out for a longer 5th or even 6th gear on the motorway.

Can you transplant a STi gearbox ? If so how much would it set you back ?

 

I think if you both called David at Welcome to the API website he can sort both your needs out.

Not too sure, but i think a Forrester Sti 6 speeder would cure both probs, but are rare.
David imports all manner of transmissions/engines direct from Japan hence the supply availability.

 

The Foz 6 speed doesn't have DCCD so would be an easier/cheaper install, but there are probably only 5% of the numbers in the UK as the STi...

From memory 6th isn't much taller than the WRX fifth and it would be cheaper to go one ratio taller on the diffs!

Alan Bell on here, managed to find one and fitted it proclaiming that the car was now dead right.

I recently bought the remains of a 2006 3.0 Legacy that had a 6 speed in the hope that it had the right box - sadly not.

The 'NEW' shape 6 speed car does have the better ratios, but just yet they are few and far between for breaking. What you will need are 'stump' shafts as all 6 speeds from 2005 on have one piece driveshafts, IE no pin to knock out and leave a 'stump ' sticking out of the diff. Not easy to get unless you order from a Dealer.

Then earlier side drive shaft seals to suit the early shafts that can now be fitted.

Lastly, some boxes do not have a speedo drive in the conventional place of the conventional style. There is not even a hole in the bell housing......

Somehow managed to get one off here, dont think the guy knew what he was selling to my advantage.
So they are out there but would seem few and far between.

Currently running in my 2.5 build and its great upto now, especially compared to the Type R gearing im used to, but can see it getting me in trouble, cruising at 4000rpm = 100mph.
