Default Focus ST-3 or Civic Type R GT

Torn between these two for the wife's replacement.

Any thoughts or suggestions between the two?

I'd go for the ST, the civic is ugly as **** and after driving one was dissapointed with the performance.

I'm a member on there

It's the Focus ST all the way for me, it's a great car and fantastic to drive. I've spent the last six months trying to decide what new car to buy and after 10 seconds of driving the ST knew it was the car for me, no question

Ford were doing a £1000 off deal in September but AFAIK that's finished now. The facelifted version is out next year so there have been some cracking deals to be done on brand new STs, it seemed rude not to take advantage

isn't the ST meant to be quite pricey to run (in comparison)?

I can't comment on the Civic mate, but i've recently bought an ST myself and i'm really impressed with it. As has been said though, it is quite thirsty - not much better than a Scoob.

Chalk and cheese mate.

Let the wife drive them both and then decide.

Civic will be easier to drive for the other half, Mrs loves our Civic (apart from the poor rear vision).

Depends whether you want NA or turbo - I'm bored of NA for now so I'm going turbo (Scoob).

Note that the new CTR isn't all that fast. I've managed to slowly pull away from one in a "lowly" e46 325i from 20mph up to 70mph*

Agree with Bob - I've driven an ST and it's a lovely car. Makes a great sound as well - not far off the old Audi Quattro's. A nice exhaust will make it sound even better! It's a quick car too - I seriously looked at one before going for my nutter Renault.

ST's are nice to drive, I just found the brakes very strong and the throttle very light - I can imagine a lady moaning about those things

I loved them BTW. If I had to choose today I would go ST cos I'm turboing up at the minute bit bored of NA.

Driven a couple of ST's now, as well as a long go in a Type R.

Liked the delicacy and funkiness of the Civic, but preferred the meaty ST, especially that 5 pot warble and sheer grunt of the thing. Civic felt slow and stiff in comparison, although the speedo suggested otherwise.

Some VERY attractive lease deals on new ST's at the minute...tempting..

Myself, i would go for the new JDM 4dr CTR. A much better version than the UK model. I haven't had a long test in the new CTR but have owned 2 EP3's and i had a lot more fun in them than what i did when i had my ST2. In fact, when i sold my ST2 i bought a last of the line Premier.

The Focus is a nice car to drive with lots of torque in any gear but after 5 months of owning it i got bored. Even after changing the exhaust, I/C and putting some Eibachs on it still didnt do anything for me. Sounded cool but averaging 16mpg done my head in. My STi PPP was better than that. Plus, i lost a lot of cash on the ST.

Quite a price difference between the JDM car and the UK Type R or ST.

Indeed the 4dr Civic is about £24k isn't it, £6k more than the 2 haches mentioned here, plus its ugly and its a saloon.

What about the Golf MK5 GTI? wasn't this quicker round a track than a Focus, In the hands of Tiff Needell anyway.

Sorry to thread hijack but just a thought.

Golf is quite economical as well.

You can get pre-registered ST-3's for around £17.5k at the last time of looking.

Was looking at getting one before my STi but saw sense

Nice looking cars and sound good.
