ah well,glad i never bought one, running at 9 PSI,suppose it is only a 1600.

Glad i got the scoob now.

 

Quite surprised at that I have had an Escort RS turbo for a few years now and in all honesty think that the kick when the turbo comes on boost is a lot more aggresive than my scooby. But in the scoobys defence it is standard and the Escort is modded quite a bit and running silly boost. In the real world the scooby would be a lot faster as it can get the power down a lot better the Escort just lights the front end up

 

The fact that it is "only" 1600 shouldn't really come into it.

The old Renault 5s were 1400's and they had a really nice kick to them.

 

Had a few of these, there is something wrong with it, although its a smoky old cvh they should go like hot **** when the tubo kicks in, modified ones are a handful and you should be holding on for dear life until they blow up that is.
Nice ones are hard to find these days but well worth it if you do.

 

In the past i had an XR2i (Loved It,Red) then the Turbo (Hated the colour, Black with Green bits))for a while then the best was my White RS1800 Fiesta.

It was such good fun to drive. I liked it better than the Turbo and not just because it was quicker.

All company cars back in the day when they where worth having.

 

Oh forgot to mention, alot of these have zetec turbos in them now as they are a cheapish engine to build and fit, ok its still a fiesta but anything upto 400bhp is possible, even more with empty pockets.

You gotta love the RST's tho, i think they have so much charitor!
I luv um to bits, the only reason i neva bought 1, is the fact that the old CVh engine wernt excatly the most reliable engine ever built.

 

The thing is, the scoob is just an awsomely fast car that everything else just feels slow when its probably not.

 

hmm,dunno what to say,maybe he didnt give it full beans,but,he did, touched 9 psi on the boost gauge and near redline in 2nd gear but it was like, yawn.

not saying my scoob is the quickest thing,far from it,but i was really looking forward to having a go in it and came out,like,hmm,was that it.

maybe if i drove it.........

 

I think your right tho, its because yours is FAST, and is delivered with a massive whack!
I went in my mates Civic type R about a month ago, it is a standard 197 bhp.
Didnt feel quick to me, only by looking at the speedo i could tell he was going quick.

Now when i went out in his old Civic VTI 160bhp that felt very quick, but this was before i had ever been in an Impreza.

 

i love my old ERST. One of the few cars where wheel spin happens at the top of the rev range, not at the bottom. Old School Lag

Must be something wrong with the car it didnt feel nippy.

I used to have a Fiesta RS Turbo running around 200bhp with a Escort T3 Turbo, chip ,kent cams, Fuel Pump, Beige Injectors, GRS FMIC and let me tell you it feels far quicker than my scoob and its running near 400bhp. The torque would pull the steering wheel out of one hand. In fact i miss the fiesta so much, just wish it wasnt so dated now. If they brought the FRST back i would buy one tomorrow.

 

What he said^. Was thinking about getting a near new Clio 182 a few months back. When I test drove one I realised how slow they were, or I suppose rather how quick the Impreza is. I ended up keeping the Impreza and spending a few quid on it.

 

The clio sports may feel slow by the lack of torque but believe me there not to be underestimated!Easily a match for a standard subaru and i have on of both and driven both around oulton park.

 

I owned an XR2i back when i was 20-21ish and at the time it seemed like a right animal. Handling was poor though and it probably wasnt even that quick but when all you had owned before that was a Lada Riva 1.3 Estate and 1.6 Cavalier it seemed like poo off a shovel!!

I do really miss it though , if i had a little more space i would buy one as a restoration project.

 

it is crazy how owning a scoob makes other makes of cars so slow when there not.

i used to own a Primera GT,granted its a good old family car,but i had 164bhp out of it and it was quick,now my missus has it now i have the turbo and when i use that and floor it..................... ah,60 mph,there it is.LOL

suppose its the same if i re-drove my Cav GSI etc etc

You shoulda fitted the ERST box onto it, they come with an LSD as standard

i was always borrowing a mates one when i was 18.

stick an abarth belt driven supercharger on it and see what happens!!!

lol at the starter handle by the hand brake too....

back on topic, we have a little XR2 as a second car and this feels so slow, but it still manages to leave most little modern hatches behind!!!

a day of driving this and getting back in the scoob is like piloting the space shuttle!!!!

 

Or one from an 1.8d fiesta van. Also works a treat

It's worth mentioning that the actuator may have been weak or perhaps the piston rings are shot and has weak compression like most RST engines nowadays. The FRST came with the garrett T2 as standard and spooled up far quicker than the ERST T3.

Still at 9psi you should feel the kick, my old fiesta was 300bhp proven by AVA and it did give me a few frights

 

Oh give over on the self congratulation, I have only ever been in standard Scoobs but they dont feel that quick, except from 0-30, and ok, they go round corners. Went in a Crossfire SRT6 and that was in a different league, but it might have been due to the fact my uncle was driving as well, he does not fill me with confidence.

Waiting for a go in my mates since its been PPP'd to see if it feels much quicker, have had a Volvo T5 and a Fiat Coupe turbo, apart from a standstill where 4wd is an issue the Volvo and the Fiat were easily a match for a standard one.

I need a go in a properly quick one, trouble is the missus hates them with a passion so I wont be getting one.

Fastest Old school Ford I went in was a Capri Tickford, didnt expect to be that impressed with 204 bhp but good god it was scary, might be down to the fact it was light and ancient.

 

Get a Leon. Mine has over 300hp

 

0-30 then its game over in a scoob wtf did you try changing into 2nd . Been in a 180bhp fiesta turbo was not overly impressed. I have had a 182bhp toyota scarlet give me more trouble in the scoob.

 

What I mean is, the acceleration is good from a standstill, after that its not that impressive these days, i.e. 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th, quick, but not startlingly so in a standard one, have never been in a modded one though.

 

i think nowadays we are spoilt with powerful cars as standard i remember buying my first cavalier sri 130 thinkin it was the fastest thing on the planet and it was quite quick in 1987
