Arrow VW GOLF 1.8 20V TURBO

Anyone point me in the right direction of some useful info on these? My mate wants to buy one and would be useful to here from someone who owns / has owned one.

Understand they are 150bhp in standard form and can be tuned to about 220 bhp quite easily.

Cheers

agree but insurance group is 15-16 on this and he has been able to get a quote (he's only 19). If I was him I'd get something Jap but he likes German cars.

Found what looks like to be a nice example - silver - 60k - one lady owner just over £4k

I test drove one when I was getting my company car, was not impressed and got a 1.7 ford Puma instead which was much more fun to drive.

his sister has a 1.7 Puma and no offence but I think there are girls cars with exception of the racing puma.

they are quite nippy tho (125bhp 0-60 around 7 secs) and when I drove one I was surprised how well they handle

I had one, it was slow, got it chipped to 210, it still felt slow. Great build quality, reliable and comfy ride but no good for being sent on, properly sent on. If he has to have one then consider the 150 diesel, with a chip these things haul. Overall you wont go far wrong with a VW Golf.

L33 - All mk4s handle very badly apart from the R32 (which I had for a year).
Suspension needs sorting and although very tuneable, the engine is pretty bland.

However, they are built well, the Anniversarys are 180bhp and the can easily hit 300bhp with an IHI turbo.

Look for uk-mkivs for really good advice.

Funnily enough, one had a go at me tonight on the Chester road, not quite as quick as a Saab 9-3 LPT, I pulled about three car lenghts.
