Default Anyone here had a Mk IV Supra?

Always been tempted by one of these. Have done some reading on the Mk IV Supra site and am seriously considering starting to look for one as a fun car.

I know the differences between the JDM and the UK cars etc. but was wondering if anyone here has had one relatively recently and can tell me whether a 10 yr old plus Supra is likely to be a money pit or not.

I would ask the same question on the MKIV Supra site, but I would think the answers will be somethwat biased

The N/A is less likely to bankrupt you.

Still 220 bhp, it wont be 'slow', it just wont be that fast.

Why is it with so many Supra's that a lovely looking car has been ruined with gash body kits, Lexus lights and hideous wheels.

Yes wasn't thinking of a N/A.

Agree a lot have been chaved up, but there are some nicely modified ones too. Would prefer an unmolested example so I can molest it myself

I had a 94 L plate N/A import back in '01. They handle very well esp around islands
Very thirsty though even when cruising I was getting only 19-21mpg.
Sold after 6 months as parking/getting in and out in tight parking-spaces was an issue + I wanted an Impreza and found insurance was cheaper!

Ive got one. Ive got a 96' facelift version RZ twin turbo. I brought it years ago, its now on 105K miles. Only thing thats ever gone wrong was a window wire which snapped ! Reliability is faultless and I dont drive like Ms Daisy either !

Easy to improve performance, Im running at 351bhp, TDI rolling Road proved, with just a simple decat, air fliter, colder plugs.

Do not go for a NA, as you will soon get bored and will always looks at the TT. Go for a facelift version, as preface lift are starting to look older.

Get a non modied one, as there are some right peices of **** out there, modded by some unskilled wallies.

mkivsupra.net is the place to go for help, ideas and checks. Like all turbos, regular oil changes, letting the turbos cool down, regulary gearbox oil changes, only use toyota parts, and it should last for years, mine has !

I drove down to Switerland one weekend with my brother, the supra was regular hitting 160mph on the clocks, and staying there for a good 10/15 mins a go :-)

Love them, so much so that I never sold my car, instead have now given it to my brother who uses it daily.

However, when driven hard, it will drink fuel :-)

I had one and it had some serious road presence. with HKS springs etc too it handled well but wasn't back breaking when it came to bumps. Spot on really.

Thirsty as said and totally impractical but a lot of car for the money. Try to get one with RLTC fitted though. An NA might not be supersonic but even they will light up the rears in the wet.

5t.

Thanks for the replies, yes a facelifted TT that is relatively unmolested is what I am after.

SBK, that sounds like a dream come true reliability wise. My Scoob has cost me £3K in maint so far this year

My brother has had a '98 TT VVTI 6 speed for over 2 years now and very little has gone wrong with it. Apart from brake disc/pads etc the only thing he has replaced was a suspension arm. He's spent plenty on other mods though including expensive Volk 19's, exhaust, uprated traction control system etc etc.

They're very reliable well built cars.

There was a funny pic a couple of years back of a Supra OC run-out (think it was ScoobyJawa that took it), taken at a Shell garage .... about 20 of 'em queuing for the Optimax pumps ....

I had a subaru STI 6 coupe r, at the sametime I had a supra. I spent £4K on that peice of crap. Turbos, clutches, pipes, disks, ££££££££££££

0-90 the STI would be a little quicker, but after 90 mph, the supra would scream past.

98' VVTI Supra ?? Very nice my friend, your brother hasa peach there and should keep hold of it !

I would definately have another, a VVTI this time though. The gun metal metalic grey is the one for me.
