We've had the car for several years and around several thousand miles under full accelleration the turbo fluctuates on and of.

1.Anybody know why on the off chance

2. I have located a Turbo off a 2004 320D, however, i',m not sure if it will fit as mine is the 136BHP model and the one i intend to get is the 150 BHP mode.
Will it fit ok????????

Check all the breather pipes, it's possible they're full of crap.

 

If the turbo works now and again its unlikely to be the turbo itself. Its the plumbing/wastegate/sensors or electrics. D

My Fiat coupe did this, it was the boost regulator, cleaned it out with WD40 and then it was ok, just make sure you get the tubes back on correctly, I didnt and boost went up to 1.7 bar !

No offence here mate, but you may be better off taking it to a BMW ind for a diagnosis - could be cheaper for you in the long run. Try bmwland forum for pointers.D

 

Good point, hopefully they can pick the problem up on the diagnostic test.

 

If u find it you should get between 14 -17ohms if all is well

 

 

Yeah, sorry, only have experience of the Fiat.

Looked like a small cylinder with three outlets, BM may be completley different

 

On the boost regulator there is a electrical plug, remove this and test the 2 connections on the regulator, on a good reg it should read between 14 and 17 ohms using a meter.

 

 

Have you cleaned the EGR valve yet ?

Did mine the other day (150bhp) and cleaned out quite a few mills of crud, make a dif to the performance, also been told its worth doing the turbo air filter (different to the normal air filter).

pre-facelift 320's are prone to turbo failure, although yours doesn't sound like it, prob worth getting it checked out properly.
