I have a 1995 JDM WRX and I am getting a strange noise that seems to be coming from the front near side. its a constant noise that sounds like something is turning when the car in moving and it still there in and out of gear. It's not the front diff as I have just had the gearbox replaced as it was knackered and I was hoping this would solve the problem but it has not and I don't think its a wheel bearing noise either. It is winding me up now and I just want it to stop.

Could it be some kind of CV joint or something?

To make things worse I cant just turn up the stereo as they disconnected the battery to do the gearbox and now my Sony stereo just says "code in" and you guessed it I don't have the code!!

mayb be miles off but the heat shield on the exhaust always rots and vibrates mine only does it a certain rpm but could be worth a good check.

 

Thanks I will look but I don't think it's that as it is at all revs and as soon as the car starts to move??

 

What type of noise is it? generally c/v noise is a clicking .But only normally heard when on full steering lock.


Is it a scraping sound? Could be the pad wear indicators rubbing on the discs?

 

Thanks Turbotits. Its not a clicking noise, now you mention it, it does sound a bit like a scraping sound. I will take the wheels of and have a nother good look around later.
