Thanks for the info guys - my key has the buttons on it that does the central locking - it's not a seperate fob - does this make things difficult ??
Thanks

Sorry - i've not communicated my point very well - I meant to imply that i want to get a spare !! Ideally with the central locking buttons built in like on the one i have.
I Was only given 1 key and if i loose it i'm fooked !!

I have the key with the buttons on for the central locking, but the car was not fitted with an alarm,it just had an immobiliser that needed to be touched with barrel on the key ring.Which is only a cat 2,so for a better insurance price I got a cat 1 alarm and immobiliser,so now I don't use the key with the buttons any more, just use alarm fob.

Ah so that would imply that the key doesn't have a transponder in it. I could get a new alarm system fitted and then just use a normal "Non Buttoned" key and the alarm fob to unlock the doors.
Thanks,

I have a 54 JDM Sti
, central locking operates via an aftermarket Cobra Alarm fob - so I think that means there is nothing fancy in the key? I have one key with those buttons you describe - plus my spare key doesnt have any buttons but works fine - which i think is exactly what you have?
- Without the cobra alarm that is!

Yes, no transponder in my JDM either.
I use the funky STI key and keep the 2 button one as a spare.
My car came with a Sigma fitted like the UK's, but I replaced it with a Clifford in the first week. Both opened the doors from the alarm.
But the clifford also closes the windows
I might even get an extra small spare one myself, so I can cut it down and keep it in my wallet. Last year the alarm locked the car doors whilst I was defrosting the windows

In fact, I have just ordered a pair. Works out at about £5.90 delivered (£3.50 of which was postage
.).When they come, Ill cut and test one and then let you know if it works in my car.
You can have the other for £2.95 plus the cost of the delivery/stamp.
