just seen this on ebay, its a induction style pipework with cone filter on end like every other one but this has a turbine behind the filter that pushes and so called cools the air entry. it says that the power gains are huge and that no other mods are needed as the MAF will make sure enough fuel will be added to compensate for the massive amonts of air going in.

Good idea, if I buy 5 then glue them ontop of each other thats an extra 100bhp to play with!

 

They will say anything to make you buy the pile of poo, steer well clear, when a magazine tested one (Redline I think) on an MR2, it made less power with the supercharger on than with it switched off!

The battery on your car could not generate enough current to power a motor to produce enough pressure to even create positive boost at idle.

 

Pardon my total mechanical ignorance, but isn't that how a proper supercharger works, electricity from the battery?

Clearly the answer is buy a supercharger if you want one, but could this be made to work if the fan in the pipe was driven by a belt.

Is costs £130, although not that to make, could it be run like a little supercharger to give some positive effect ?

 

The theory on this is spot on, have tried it in the past.
The only problem being the standard "Tandy" electric fans like this don't move enough air due to low spin speed and the fan blades cause a bigger restriction in the pipe than can be gained by it spinning.
You need a 4 blade fan with a diameter in excess of 8" to get this type system to work I've found. And the aren't many cars that have space for the above fan let alone an eight incher........................ I think the wife said she wanted an eight incher but that maybe a different subject

I remember a few years ago when I had my 106GTI. I bought `Performance GTI` and there was a guy with a heavily tuned 106GTI.
As part of the mods, he had a fan inside the air intake tube (K & N Cone) and apparently it did work.
I did think about getting one at the time, but never bothered in the end. The gimic was that as the fan spun, it suck more cold air into your engine, thus improving performance.
Do they work? Dunno.

Seriously a fan of that size powered by a conventional motor would never, ever, ever, ever, produce any boost on an engine intake.. EVER.. EVER. EVER..

There is a story on the net somewhere of a guy who built a system from a Civic, but it required A HUGEEEE stepper motor with all sorts of gearing, 4 or 5 deep cycle batteries and some pretty hard core wriing, to be fair the performance gains were probably out weighed by the extra weight.. (no pun intended).

Yes thats the IDEA.. **BUT** an engine uses thousands of gallons of air even at low revs/idle how on gods earth is a 12v fan going to move that much air lol! Even an industrial compressor does not have a high enough CFM to create positive pressure under load.

The only way i could see a fan thing under the engine working is in relation to a cold air feed sort of like the fan set up in a classic Mini. As the rad is mounted on the side of the car the wing has a vent in it and the fan doesn't push warm air out it actually sucks cold air in, through the wing and then through the rad. Obviously that heats the engine but if ytou didn't have the rad in the way it might pull more cold air in front of the induction kit.

For that sort of money you may as well get a boost controller.

OK Then Einstein, remove your airbox and put your hand over the inlet pipe while the engine is running at about 3000rpm.. Once your local A&E have recovered your entire arm from the pipe come back and see if you still think these things will work

Even at idle the engine produces enough negative pressure to take hold of your hand and bring the blood to just under your skin! Imagine the level of vacum at full chat!

The little motor has to flow that much air + more to create positive pressure.

To put it in perspective, a Mini Cooper S supercharger needs 45bhp to drive it (so yes the 163 at the flywheel would be 208 if it didn't have to drive the charger) so do you think those little wires can carry 30kW of current (nearly 3,000 amps) - no neither do I, complete waste of time and money!

You are missing the point, these are for non turbo cars so for that money a boost controller would be no good What boost could you control if you haven't got a turbo
Tuners don't use them as they would stick a turbo on and get more money from you and give you more power.
